Rainford and Bluegrass music have a past history for over 30 years. The Rainford session started when the Widnes Social Club closed down overnight leaving us with nowhere to play. It was a Wednesday night and rather than just go home they called in the Wheatsheaf on the Rainford bypass and asked if they could use the lounge and play. The landlord suggested we return every week and so started the session. It became quite popular and people came to hear and play Bluegrass music. For many it was their first experience of Bluegrass music.
After a few years there it was announced that the Wheatsheaf pub was closing down and an offer from the Junction landlord to move the session up the road was eagerly taken and we’ve been there every Wednesday night for the last 30 years...…..Find Out More
In 2021 Bluegrass events and festivals were thin on the ground due to COVID etc. It was clear that as restrictions were relaxed people were looking for a Bluegrass weekend venue. We had all missed our regular summer events. Dave Lee was the organiser of two Summer Picking Weekends in Cheshire at the Cotton Arms and the Bhurtpore Inn. Both premises had themselves suffered due to the Pandemic and for various reasons were unable to provide their premises for Bluegrass gatherings that year. Some of the Junction players also attended the above venues and were as disappointed also that they were not going ahead.
Our meeting venue at the time, the Junction, happened to have great on-site facilities, so after gaining permission from Paul Draper (the Landlord), we contacted Dave and suggested a Picking weekend at the Junction and so the Junction Bluegrass ‘Bresfest’ Weekender was born….....Find Out More
